PUNTLAND MARITIME POLICE FORCE PRESENTS FOOTBALLS TO EYL’S YOUTH COUNCIL

March 21, 2012 – Eyl, Puntland State of Somalia – Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) Farah Officers Abdullahi Mohamed and Abdukadir presented four footballs to the Youth Council of Eyl District. The Mayor Muse of Eyl and Mr. Farah, a representative of the Government of Puntland, attended the presentation.

The presentation of footballs by the PMPF is emblematic of its efforts to further engage the community of Eyl in ways that improve the quality of life of it residents.

“Physical fitness and play are an important part of a child’s life,” a PMPF spokesperson stated. “We want to contribute to the community’s physical and moral well-being in a tangible way. We feel that by bringing these footballs to the Youth Council, we are doing just that.”

Mayor Muse echoed these comments, saying that he was pleased to receive the footballs and believes that the presentation underscores the positive relationship that has been forged between the people of Eyl and the PMPF.

About the Puntland Maritime Police Force
The PMPF is a professional, locally-recruited coastal police force in the Puntland State of Somalia. The PMPF’s mission is to promote peace and stability in the region by deterring, detecting, and eradicating piracy, illegal fishing and other coastal crimes; protecting marine resources; and delivering much-needed humanitarian relief supplies to Puntland’s citizens.

The PMPF directly responds to calls from the United Nation and international community for regional Somali authorities to enhance their law enforcement and security capacities. Relevant Somali authorities have briefed and notified the United Nations about the PMPF and its activities on a number of occasions.
